Bonjour mes petits dreamers,
Today I discovered la Petite Ceinture, a little known wasteland and Urban phenomenon.
The “little belt” is an abandoned railway nearly 32 kilometeres long that was built more than 150 years ago in the centre of Paris.
Steam trains circulated the railway from 1862 until the development of the Paris Métro and the increase of people using cars. By 1934, passenger trains were a thing of the past, and in 1993 the railway was completely abandoned.
Paris’s last green space is enjoyed by entrepreneurs, graffiti artists and nature-lovers alike, the disused line is also a shelter for the homeless.
Precious in its biodiversity as well as its prime location, the future of this land is a contentious issue at a time when cities everywhere are struggling for space we’ll just have to wait and see …..
Still getting lost in the right direction
