Hey mes petits dreamers,
Today I discovered the coolest basketball court in Paris on rue Duperré, Pigalle.
This court is like no other. The creator took an artistic approach when renovating a local court in Pigalle with his colleagues and friends and the outcome of the concept is major WOW. The court that’s located on rue Duperré has been around for 3 years now and has many different looks. I could try to describe it’s most recent facelift, but I think the photos speak for themselves.
When the man behind the court Stephane Ashpool sat down with Dazed and Confused Magazine he said that the new court was really an effort to give back to the city’s youth: “Seven years ago, we fought with the government to build a basketball court in the Pigalle area instead of a car park. It’s in the middle of the Pigalle area between two buildings – two years after, Nike helped us to refit the court together with LeBron James.”
Following the theme of community building, the court was painted by friends, members of the neighborhood, and a team of local kids that Ashpool coaches every week. Since then the courts designs have evolved and this Summer see’s art direction agency Ill Studio working its magic.
I’m loving everything about this court and its story not to mention its cheery habitants who even amused me by including me in a shoot out. I’m by no means a pro, but it’s all about having a go. So that’s what I did. Let’s not talk about the outcome 🙂
If like in my case you feel like a little harmless public humiliation or maybe some serious one on one, you can find it at 22 rue Duperré 75009. Métro Pigalle. Open from 10 am to 8 pm all summer.
Still getting lost in the right direction.
White girls can jump. Just not me in particular.
